Poor Alethea. She appears to have gotten my short legs. We spent some time hanging out with friends this weekend and among them was Judah, Alethea’s hospital buddy. He’s a full head taller than Alethea now, although Alethea weighs approximately five pounds (or 25%) more.
Alethea’s proportions are making it more and more frustrated every day as I attempt to clothe her. 12 month pants are pretty tight around the waist, but her large stack of very cute 18 month pants are all about 4 inches too long in the legs. I’m not sure what to do. I feel bad for putting her in too tight (and probably uncomfortable) 12 month sizes, but she’s not any where near tall enough for 18 month pants. I’ve tried cuffing them, but at some point they always come uncuffed and then she trips on them, which isn’t really safe.
What I really need is some 15 month pants. If only the world of baby sizes didn’t make a sudden jump from 12 to 18 months, everything would be okay.
But since 15 month pants don’t exist, anyone know where I can get pants for a short baby with a root beer belly?
Well Elise, looks like you have to get out the sewing box, needle, thread, and scissors. All Mommies need to do a little lite sewing. Good luck.
Do you want me to tack up some hems in the sz 18 pants? Otherwise we need to find some more one piece type outfits: they seem to be mad
wider. :) (I wouldn’t worry about her leg length as long as they both reach the floor!)
They make adjustable waisted pants. Great for the long leg twig and the short leg rootbeer belly.
You could maybe buy some capri pants in size 18m? Children’s Place and Gymboree both sell them. CP also has great roll up pants (with button clasps) that fit well in the between size periods. Good luck!
Wow, thanks for the suggestions everyone.
Pearl – you have found my Achiles heal of motherhood. I really hate mending or altering things. I only like sewing if I’m creating something new and I’m not nearly tallented enough to make clothing. Sigh, I suppose I should probably get used to the mending thing now that I have a kid, huh?
Denny – Since we were so kind as to offer, yes I would love to have you tack up some of Alethea’s 18 month pants.
Amie – good suggestion. I looked at Target and found a pair of 12 month adjustable waist jeans. They fit Alethea much better than her other pants.
Sally – I was just thinking the other day that maybe with summer coming stores would start carrying capris and that 18 month ones would probably look just like pants on Alethea. I might have to check out Children’s Place and Gymboree. Although I’m so cheap that I get most of Alethea’s clothes on Target clearance racks, those roll up pants sound very intriguing, no needle or thread required! Love it!
I’ve actually found Children’s Place clearance racks to have better deals than Target’s! And if you sign up, they send you 15% coupons (total purchase, including sale items) all the time. I got a bunch of t-shirts for $2.12 yesterday and a couple pants for $2.55.
Wow, good deals Sally! I guess I should try to get to Children’s Place more often.
