Enjoying a Freshly Painted Room

Two coats of the perfect shade of gray paint went up on the walls of Alethea’s big girl room this weekend.  I absolutely love the color!  I think it looks so fresh now, but don’t take my word for it.  Here’s the before, just as a reminder:

And here is the room as of this morning:

Alethea really likes the storage cubes I got at Target (my first furniture purchase for the room).  They make a good bench:

Did you notice what she’s playing with?  Her favorite things – ‘Dee’ the puppy and random items from the kitchen cupboard.  She hardly notices her toys anymore.

Who knew a Nesquik container could look so cute…

  1. She’s a beautiful little girl, Elise! And I maintain (as I quickly decided after touring your house for the first time) that you’re the best “amateur” (i.e. not professional and doing it for a living) painter I have ever, ever met. :) Alethea’s room looks really calming and fresh.

  2. Thanks for the compliment Stacy. I’m not sure if it’s exactly right, but I appreciate it anyway! I’m still pretty slow at edging, but I am getting a little faster and better at getting a clean line at the same time (I’m still not using masking tape). Painting is one of those householdy things I actually enjoy doing, makes me feel like an artist or something!

    • Hi Judith,

The color is a mix of several Sherwin Williams grays. I bought a whole bunch of sample paints, but didn’t really like any of them, so I started mixing them together until I got a color I did like. Then I painted some of it on an index card and took it in to have it color matched at the store. The darker accent wall in the room (not pictured in this post) is SW Proper Gray, which goes really well with it. SW Grayish might be similar? Hope the helps a little.

      Elise
